Professional fishermen used to land their catches at the Kalix Fishermen's Sales Association (later BD Fisk AB). An ice cellar was built to store the fish in cool conditions. The goods were then transported further by the fish truck and sold at the fish store in Kalix or other locations.

The main fishing activities included herring and salmon fishing, but whitefish and perch were also part of the catches. When Kalix Löjrom became an exclusive product in upscale restaurants in the 1960s, fishing for vendace became the most important source of income for professional fishing. The harbour was expanded in 1952 to accommodate 70 boat berths.

In the picture from 1963, you can see boats for professional fishing and typical leisure boats used for recreational fishing, archipelago excursions, and trips to archipelago cottages. Some of the larger boats were also used for transporting workers to and from the factory in Karlsborg.

The old boathouses, some of which still exist, have ancient origins and were typically constructed from timber. They were used to store fishing gear, nets, and skötar. Herring was also salted and stored in these boathouses.
