4. Kattgrundet

At Kattgrundet, there were boathouses and a harbor for fishing and recreational boats throughout the 20th century. The shallowing of the fjord at Målsön led to the fact that Målsö residents relocated their fleet of boats to Kattgrundet at Båtöfjärden.
At this location, now known as Skärgårdsudden, the villagers established a village sawmill in 1923, Ytterby Träförädling, to provide the village with building timber. The sawmill eventually came into private ownership in 1953 through Lundbäcks Träförädling and expanded with a planing mill. After the closure of the sawmill, the area has been planned for exclusive, beachfront settlement.
At Kattgrundet, a channel flows out, draining Årrasfjärden. It was particularly important to prevent flooding during the spring flood. The flow was regulated by a dam, Sunddammen, which did not hinder pike and perch from migrating into the fjord to spawn. The dam is already found on the map from 1782, with a width of approximately 38 meters at that time. When the dam at Målsön was demolished, and the new dam was built at Sundet, the two fjords, inner and outer fjord, formed a connected water reservoir with outlets at "Lertäppan" and at Sunddammen, the latter with water level regulation.
The new road and dam were constructed in the 1920s. The stream was exploited by the villagers for productive spring fyke net fishing. The fyke nets were set downstream of the dam until the new road and dam were established. During the spawning season, large quantities of perch could be caught in the vast shoals.
Later on, it became a place where the village boys fished by using snares made of birch twigs and metal wire to catch pike, which they could sell to the local store or the village mink farmers.
